Rob Seebacher to conduct Bay Area Strings Community Orchestra

The Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) has appointed Rob Seebacher as conductor of the Bay Area Strings Community Orchestra (BASCO). This ensemble of non-vocational string players is a MSO community outreach program and provides a venue for musicians to polish their skills and enjoy performing and rehearsing all types of music from classical to whimsical.

Seebacher is currently Music Director and Conductor of the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO). He is also Music Director and Conductor of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee. He has appeared with the Lexington Philharmonic, Warren Philharmonic and Youngstown Symphony Orchestras.

Seebacher has held assistant conductor positions with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and Opera, Bowling Green Symphony, Perrysburg Symphony, Bowling Green Philharmonia, and Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra.

"I am thrilled and humbled to be leading such a passionate group of string players," Seebacher says. "The spirit and desire to play really well permeates this group and their love for music is infectious."

BASCO is actively seeking string players from throughout the Gulf Coast area to join the ensemble. The group is open to adults and young adults that have at least a basic playing knowledge of violin, viola, cello or string bass. There is no formal audition process. BASCO rehearses weekly and performs throughout the year.

"Our city is so fortunate to have one of the nation's best regional orchestras and a skilled, dedicated and rapidly developing youth orchestra," Seebacher comments. "But we also are very pleased to offer a program for string players that simply love the process of making music. I mean, that's what it's all about, isn't it? BASCO exists purely for the joy and camaraderie that develops when people who love making music get together."

String players who have questions or would like to join the group should contact Rob Seebacher via email at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . Rehearsals are 6-8 p.m. on Thursdays at the Larkins Music Center, 257 Dauphin Street in Mobile.
