Robert J. Seebacher, Music Director and Conductor of the Mobile Symphony
Youth Orchestra, has been named the new Music Director and Conductor of
Johnson City Symphony Orchestra beginning in the 2009-2010 season. Mr.
Seebacher will continue his work with the MSYO and will travel to
Johnson City during the concert season.
Rob Seebacher stepped onto the JCSO podium with short notice in October,
2008 for a concert featuring violinist Mark O'Connor, and was
immediately re-hired to conduct the March 12, 2009 concert with the
Canadian Brass. Guy Mauldin, Chair of the JCSO Board of Directors,
said that Rob was obviously a good match for the organization. "Within
the first five minutes of the first rehearsal, it seemed that we had a
new orchestra present. The word I heard used most to describe the
concert was ‘triumph'".
"The orchestra sounds spectacular under his baton. His appeal is
popular and professional. His enthusiasm, accessibility, great
expectations, dynamism, and ability to get a great performance from the
orchestra landed him the job" says Leanne Shaver with the JCSO. The
decision to hire Seebacher, she said, was easy. "The audience and the
musicians are thrilled."
Johnson City Symphony Orchestra, now in its 40th season, performs five
classics, one pops, one free outdoor concert, and two education concerts
every year. When asked about plans for his first season with the JCSO,
Rob Seebacher said he is already working on ways to bring great music
and great artists to the entire community, and to place an emphasis on
reaching children and their families. "I look forward to being a part
of this wonderful organization and community.
