Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the Mobile
Symphony Youth Orchestra. We are happy that you are considering your audition
for this highly skilled, honors orchestra. If you are selected for this
ensemble, you will have the opportunity to play the very best of the orchestral
repertoire with other young artists from across the Gulf Coast. You will
experience music making at a very high level and will interact with some of the
World's most renowned and respected guest soloists.
Listed below are the audition materials for the 2010-2011
Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra.
First, open the audition guidelines. These important terms
and conditions of the MSYO must be understood by all applicants.
Next, be sure to open the file that contains important dates
for the start of the 2010-2011 season. The audition dates are listed as well as
the dates of the opening retreat. You must attend the retreat if you are
selected to participate in the 2010-2011 MSYO.
Finally, open and print the audition requirements for your
instrument. Please note that each applicant will need to perform a portion of a
solo piece. This solo piece should be a concerto, concert work, sonata, or
another type of piece that demonstrates your playing ability. In general,
etudes or studies are not advisable as audition solos for woodwinds, brass, and
strings.

guidelines very carefully.
The following points are detailed in the audition guidelines
and important dates for the start of the season, but please especially pay
attention to these points:
The string audition is on Friday, August 27th,
2010.
The woodwind audition is on Saturday, August 28th,
2010.
The brass and percussion audition is on Sunday, August 29th,
2010.
The audition location is the Larkins Music Center located at
257 Dauphin Street in downtown Mobile, Alabama, 36602.
You must call 251-432-2010 to schedule an audition time. When you call, you will be told what times are available.
IMPORTANT: Please be sure that you print all of the pages
for your audition.

Weekly Rehearsals are held Sunday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
at the Larkins Music Center, 257 Dauphin Street, Mobile.
Concerts: MSYO performs up to 5 concerts each season across the Gulf Coast, usually on Sunday afternoons.
A complete schedule for the season
is published at the beginning of the year.
Fees: $375 for the season. The cost of any potential tour is separate and is the
responsibility of the MSYO member.
Financial Assistance: A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. You may obtain a scholarship application directly from the music director. All collegiate students accepted into the collegiate mentor program will receive a full scholarship.
