Auditions for the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra are August 28, 29 and 30, 2009 at the Larkins Music Center.

MSYO Retreat and first rehearsal will be Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2009.  Regular Sunday rehearsals resume immediately following the retreat.

Audition Location:  Larkins Music Center  •  257 Dauphin Street  •  Mobile Auditions are scheduled at 10 minute intervals. Notification of the results will be mailed within one week of the audition.


Audition Requirements
•  Scales: 2 major scales, 2 octaves, to be selected by the judges from F, B-flat, E-flat, D, G, C.

•  One solo selection, unaccompanied, no longer than 2 minutes

•  Excerpts (see above)

Percussion only:  Basic techniques on snare, mallet, tympani, and auxilliary percussion Audition excerpts (available online)

•  Interview

Weekly Rehearsals are held Sunday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Larkins Music Center, 257 Dauphin  Street, Mobile.

Concerts: MSYO performs concerts along the Gulf Coast throughout the season, usually on Sunday afternoons.  A concert schedule for the season is published at the beginning of the year.

Tour:  MSYO makes a concert tour in early June.  Previous tours have included Washington, D.C. and aboard the Carnival Cruise Ship Holiday.

Fees:  $375 for the season.  Cost of tour is separate and is the responsibility of the MSYO member.
