Mobile Symphony Orchestra receives $65,000 from PNC for Joffrey Ballet Performance and Youth Scholarships

Arts education programs in Mobile will receive a significant financial boost with $65,000 in grants and sponsorship funding from PNC to the Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and the Mobile Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO). The MSO will use funds to subsidize future performances and to support its youth program.

“These funds reflect PNC’s ongoing commitment to help introduce the art of instrumental music to as many children as possible,” said Erin Horan, MSO director of education.”Many of our youth music programs have suffered along with the economy, and anything that helps us bring live performances and education to more people benefits everyone in the community”.

The Mobile Youth Symphony Orchestra will receive a $45,000 grant from the PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: PNC), to provide full tuition scholarships for two students to attend the String Academy, a training orchestra for the MSYO.  The subsidy will also support production costs and help high school students in South Alabama pay for coaching time with professional musicians.

The Mobile Symphony Orchestra will also a receive $20,000 corporate sponsorship from PNC Bank to help bring the nationally acclaimed Stars of the Joffrey Ballet production to Mobile, Sept. 8-9. The season-opening performance features five of the finest Joffrey dancers accompanied by the Orchestra’s presentation of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty” along with pieces by Goldenthal, Richard Rodgers and Arvo Part.

“PNC has a long tradition of providing grants to cultural institutions that enrich the communities we serve,” said Cedric Hatcher, PNC regional president for the Gulf Coast. “Our support represents a commitment to the rich, cultural energy that has distinguished the Gulf Coast, and furthers our investment in students, neighborhoods and schools throughout Mobile and Baldwin counties.”
