A graduate of Baker High School in 1988, Susan McKinnell is from Mobile, Alabama, and she received her Bachelor's Degree in Flute Performance and Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of South Alabama.
Ms. McKinnell was a member of the Mobile Youth Symphony while she was in high school. Since graduating from high school in 1988 she has been a member of the Mobile Symphony. She was also a member of the Gulf Coast Symphony in Biloxi, MS for sixteen years. She also performs with the Mobile Opera and Mobile Ballet. In 2004 she was a featured soloist with the Mobile Symphony performing Brandenburg Concerto IV by JS Bach.
Ms. McKinnell was a featured soloist at the Alabama Music Educator's Association In-Service in 2004 with the Spanish Fort Middle School Band and in 2006 with the Mobile Youth Symphony.
Ms. McKinnell is the band director at Grand Bay Middle School in Grand Bay, AL. She has been there for eleven years and was "Teacher of the Year" at her school for the 2004-2005 school year.
Ms. McKinnell has a large flute studio of middle school and high school students.
