Juan Jose Gutierrez Print
Cello

Information: Juan José Gutiérrez was born in San José, Costa Rica, where he began his musical studies at age eight. In 1994 he earned his Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica. From 1997 to 1999 Mr. Gutiérrez lived in Portugal where he was a member of the Orquestra do Norte and of the Quarteto Lusitano. In 2000 he traveled to the U.S.A and in 2002 he received his Master of Music in Cello Performance degree from Louisiana State University School of Music. During his graduate studies in Louisiana, he was a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 he received his Doctor of Music in String Performance degree from Florida State University College of Music. During his stay at Tallahassee he was a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and principal cello of the Albany Symphony. He taught cello at the University of West Florida from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Gutiérrez has played solo recitals in such venues as the Georges Enescu Museum in Bucharest, the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica and Tulane University. He has been a member of the Pensacola Symphony since September 1996 and a member of the Mobile Symphony since July 2007. He is also a String Instructor with the M.S.O. educational program.
