Violinist Jorge I. Gonzalez, a native of Monterrey, Mexico, holds a master and bachelor degrees in music performance from The University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. Gonzalez was the recipient of the “George and Hilda Magee” award, finalist of the “Canadian Music Competition Incorporated” in Toronto, Canada, winner of the 1999 Collegiate Artist Strings State Competition in Mississippi, finalist of the 2000 Divisional Competition in Richmond, Virginia, winner of the 2001 “William T. Gower Concerto Competition” at USM, and awarded 2001 “New Young Artist” of the Victoria Bach Festival in Victoria, Texas. He has attended music festivals including the “Jugend Musikschule” orchestra in Switzerland, the “Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum” in Salzburg, Austria, the “Rencontres Interationales” at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Blonay, Switzerland, and the Brevard Music Festival in Brevard, North Carolina. He has served as concertmaster of the USM symphony orchestra with soloists Jean-Pierre Rampal, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Sir James Galway and Placido Domingo. Mr. Gonzalez has given solo recitals in Mexico, Canada, and in the U.S. He has also played as a soloist with the Orquesta Juvenil de la ESMyD, the USM Chamber Orchestra, the USM Symphony Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra in Jackson, MS. Mr. Gonzalez is currently assistant concertmaster of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, principal second violin of the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra and principal second violin of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, teacher and conductor of the Hattiesburg High School and N.R. Burger Middle School string orchestras and serves as Adjunct Professor at The University of Southern Mississippi as founder and conductor of the Southern Mississippi Youth Orchestra.
