Cellist Dr. Chun-Hsin Chang, a native of Taipei, Taiwan, began her cello studies at the age of 7. At age 10 and the next four consecutive years, she was awarded the gold medal in the Taipei City Cello Competition, and the bronze medal in the National Taiwan Cello Competition. She also won the Swenson Memorial Scholarship twice and was the finalist in the Westpac Chamber Music Contest in New Zealand.
Chun-Hsin spent her teenage years in Wellington, New Zealand, and New York. She participated in the Auckland Symphony Orchestra Festival in New Zealand, performed solo concerts at the Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in Wellington, New Zealand, and was selected to perform at the 10th Anniversary Young Musicians Concert at Alice Tully, Lincoln Center, New York.
Chun-Hsin enjoys playing chamber music as well as being a soloist. Recently, Chun-Hsin’s piano trio was invited to perform in the IBLA International Competition in Italy. She has participated in numerous cello master classes, and performed chamber music concerts and solo recitals extensively in New Zealand, United States, and Taiwan.
Chun-Hsin received her Master’s Degree in Cello Performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Bonnie Hampton, and Sadao Harada. In May, 2007, she graduated from University of Texas at Austin with her Doctorate Degree in Cello Performance, where she served as the teaching assistant of Professor Phyllis Young.
From 2007-2008, Chun-Hsin served as the Associate Professor of Strings at Northwest Florida State College, and the principal cellist at Philharmonic of Northwest Florida. She is now the principal cellist at the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. Chun-Hsin also performs with Mobile Symphony, Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, and Choral Society of Pensacola.
