Information: Brooks Truly was born in Knoxville, TN, in 1974, and was moved around some until settling in Mobile in 1978. Brooks began playing drum set in 1991, the summer preceding his senior year at Murphy High School, which eventually led to his playing percussion and majoring in music in college. He attended the University of South Alabama and received the Bachelor of Music Degree in Percussion Performance in December of 1998. Shortly after receiving the degree, Brooks moved to Chicago, IL, and did some freelancing; then, in the Fall of 2000, he decided to return to Mobile. Soon after returning, Brooks was appointed principal percussion of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, as well as of the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra in Biloxi, MS. In addition to these two orchestras, Brooks has also played with many musical organizations in the Mobile and surrounding areas, such as the Mobile Opera, the Pensacola Opera, the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Mobile Theatre Guild, the Joe Jefferson Theatre, and many, many others. In 2004, Brooks moved back to Chicago to attend the Music Conservatory of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where he received his Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance in May of 2005. Currently, Brooks is pursuing the Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in Percussion Performance at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, and is very active in the music scene of the Greater Miami area: however, he still comes to Mobile off and on to play with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra.
